Pastor Pondering:
Dear Ford Street Friends,
I was able to spend my day off earlier this week in beautiful Nashville, IN. As I walked around, enjoying the warm fall weather, I also felt like Christmas was already coming! Every store had Christmas decorations, music, and more! It was almost overwhelming. But that’s not how our weeks leading up to Advent and Christmas should feel. That’s why it’s been so important to focus on gratitude and giving thanks over these past few weeks, and that we will continue to do so.
This Sunday, we celebrate All Saints- a day to honor and remember those who have joined the church triumphant. There will be an opportunity for you to light a candle for a loved one you would like to honor, as well as we will name those in our church membership who have passed in the last year.
We will also have ice cream sundaes following worship for “Sundae Sunday”, which will be a free will offering to support our youth group! Eat dessert before lunch!
And on November 26, we celebrate Gratitude Sunday. Everyone will be given a Gratitude Card where you may indicate your commitment to how you will show gratitude to God in the coming year, “just to say thanks” for the ways that God is generous with us. Upon presenting your Gratitude card as part of worship, you will receive a special gift!
Then we are off and running for Advent, beginning December 3. I will be doing a sermon series, “The Heart that Grew Three Sizes” on the beloved story of the Grinch and how we find faith in this infamous Christmas tale. Bob Wayman and I will be leading the Advent study of the same title, which begins November 26 at 3:00 pm. Stay tuned for other Advent and Christmas happenings!
We hope to see you soon at Ford Street!
In Christ,
Pastor Jill
