Pastor Pondering: “Even God needed a mother!” These were words spoken by our guide as we explored the Church of the Annunciation in Nazareth on our Holy Land adventure a few weeks ago. The church is built over a place believed to be where the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary to give her the shocking news that she would conceive and give birth to Jesus, the Messiah. Around the outside of the church were murals from all over the world depicting Mary and the child Jesus. It was beautiful to see the countless interpretations of mother and child. As Mother’s Day is quickly approaching, I find myself reflecting on the mothering relationships in my own life. My own mother, my grandmothers, and women who have helped shape me into who I am today. Of course, I reflect upon my own continuing journey as a mother and how much I have learned about myself in this role over the last few years- joys and challenges! Who or what are the mothering relationships in your own life? And how could you go about thanking those persons this week, assuring them that they are loved and appreciated? After all, even God needed a mother. We look forward to seeing you soon at Ford Street UMC! In Christ, Pastor Jill |
